All GP practices are contracted to provide essential services, that is, basic treatment of ill people. We also provide the following additional services: The Practice Nurse will offer advice on vaccinations.
Asthma and Diabetic Clinics
Sister Downie is trained in the management of both asthma and diabetes. In conjunction with one of the doctors she can help check your inhaler technique and give general advice about your asthma and discuss the problems and management of diabetes. Please tell the receptionist if you are booking in for an asthma or diabetic check up.
Chronic Disease Reviews
Sister Downie is also trained to review patients with other chronic health problems such as stroke and coronary heart disease and COPD and Heart Failure. You will be invited annually for a review with the nurse. With some conditions it is valuable to have up to date blood tests performed prior to the review and the receptionist will guide/advise you about this.
Cervical Screening(smears)
The Practice Nurse can also carry out cervical smears and is happy to offer advice about sexual health and all forms of contraception.
Antenatal Booking
If you think you are pregnant, the number for you to directly self refer to the central maternity booking centre is 0141 347 8422.
Nexplanon Contraceptive
We now offer the insertion and removal of Nexplanon contraceptive. Please ask at reception for details.
Child Health Checks in conjunction with the Health Visiting team
The child health programme in Scotland changed in 2006 to reflect the recommendations of Dr David Hall’s report (Hall 4). Children are no longer routinely given appointments for child Health development assessments apart from the 6-8 week examination which is usually carried out at the same time as mum’s postnatal. The health visitor visits regularly in the first two months and most children are seen for routine immunisations at 2, 3, 4, 12 and 13 months. At two years, parents are invited to discuss any health or developmental concerns. Children are invited to the practice for booster immunisations in their pre-school year.
If you have any concerns at any time about your child’s health or development, please contact the health visiting team or your GP.
Child Immunisation
Immunising your child not only protects them but also prevents the diseases spreading, thereby protecting other children who cannot be immunised because they have serious medical conditions.
Appointments for immunisations are sent out by the Health Board and it is not normally possible to reschedule these appointments.
For more information you can visit www.immunisationscotland.org.uk or call the NHS information helpline free on 0800 224488.
Contraceptive Services
The Practice Nurse or any of the Doctors are happy to offer advice about sexual health and all forms of contraception.
